Schmidt Blasts Unauthorized War Escalation: “Congress Must Reclaim Its Authority”
NY-21 — As tensions escalate overseas and reports emerge of strikes near U.S. military installations in the Middle East, Congressional candidate Christopher Schmidt issued the following statement:
“Enough. The American people are tired of being dragged into foreign conflicts without a vote, without transparency, and without constitutional authority. Acts of war cannot be normalized through press briefings and executive maneuvering.”
Schmidt directly challenged both major parties for what he described as a pattern of bipartisan complicity.
“Republicans and Democrats alike have allowed war powers to drift from Congress to the Executive Branch for decades. Drone strikes, ‘targeted operations,’ and retaliatory escalations are still acts of war. Calling them something softer does not change what they are.”
He warned that overseas escalation immediately puts American troops and civilians in harm’s way.
“When strikes happen abroad, retaliation follows. U.S. bases become targets. Service members and innocent people pay the price. NY-21 families should not have to wake up wondering whether Washington just lit another fuse halfway around the world.”
Schmidt called for immediate congressional debate and authorization before any further military escalation.
“If this nation is going to take military action, it must be debated openly and authorized constitutionally. Anything less is a betrayal of the system our founders designed. We cannot continue allowing endless conflict to be managed by executive impulse.”
He concluded:
“America First means American lives first. American communities first. NY-21 first. War without constitutional approval cannot become routine. If Congress will not reclaim its authority, then the people must reclaim Congress.”
